IPL: Punjab win after tough fight by Bangalore

BANGALORE: A six by Pyush Chawla off pen-ultimate ball of the innings made Kings XI Punjab emerge victorious after Royal Challengers Bangalore gave a tough fight in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing 159 to win, Punjab were looking set to achieve victory with ease as they needed only 12 runs in 12 balls but they found it very difficult after losing three quick wickets.
However, they managed 163 for six in 19.5 overs to reach the third spot on points table.
The main scorers were Nitin Saini (50 from 36 balls with five fours), Australian David Hussey (45 from 29 balls with four sixes and two fours) and Mandeep Singh 43(from 30 balls with six fours and a six).
Australia’s fast-medium bowler Andrew McDonald took two wickets for 25 runs.
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore were sent into bat by Kings XI Punjab captain Hussey and restricted to 158-5 in the allotted 20 overs.
West Indies’star batsman Chris Gayle top scored with 71 off 42 balls. He hit four sixes and six fours adding 119 runs for the second wicket partnership with Virat Kohli, who contributed 45 with three fours and two sixes.
Pakistan allrounder Azhar Mahmood captured three wickets for 20 runs.
