India batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the remainder of
the ODI Series against England due to a toe injury, the tourists' team
manager Shivlal Yadav has confirmed.The BCCI announced later that Tendulkar will be replaced by middle-order batsman S Badrinath."Sachin Tendulkar has been advised rest for four weeks. The All-India
Senior Selection Committee has chosen S. Badrinath to replace him,''
said BCCI in a statement.Tendulkar, who continues to chase an elusive 100th international
century, missed the opener at the Durham on Saturday and the Indian camp
announced on Monday their star man is facing up to four weeks on the
sidelines.No replacement will be called up to an India squad which has been beset with health concerns in recent weeks.Rohit Sharma was also ruled out yesterday after suffering a fractured
finger in the match at the weekend, which was rained off. Manoj Tiwary
has been called up to take his place.
Tendulkar will become the eighth player to fly home from India's
difficult tour, following Rohit, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Gautam
Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Ishant Sharma and Harbhajan Singh.India will be hoping that Tiwary will be ready in time to join the team
in time for Tuesday's second match at the Rose Bowl, with their batting
stocks diminished further following the news on Tendulkar.
