Mandeep shines as Punjab outplay Deccan by 25 runs


HYDERABAD : Kings XI Punjab defeated Deccan Chargers by 25 runs in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League here at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal on Tuesday.
Chasing a difficult target of 171 runs to win, Deccan Chargers were restricted to 155 for eight in the allotted 20 overs.
Main scorers were Australian Daniel Harris (30) and Akshath Reddy (24).
Australian off-spinner David Hussey captured two wickets for just two runs while pace bowlers Praveen Kumar and Parvinder Kumar also took two wickets each for 15 and 27, respectively.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab into bat who plundered 170 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.
Mandeep Singh top scored with 75, made off 48 balls. He hit eight fours and three sixes.
Among others, David Miller of South Africa scored an unbeaten 28 and Shaun Marsh of Australia made 22.
For Deccan, medium-pacer Ashish Reddy claimed two wickets.
