IPL: Kolkata outplay Bangalore by 47 runs

KOLKATA: Kolkata Knight Riders crushed Royal Challenger Bangalore by 47 runs in the season five of the Indian Premier League here at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.

The Knight Riders amassed 190 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs after captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss.

Gambhir leading from the front smashed 93 from 51 balls with five sixes and nine fours whereas New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum made 43 with eight boundaries and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis scored 41 in 27 balls with three sixes and a four.

For the Royal Challengers, R Vinay Kumar took two wickets for 31 runs.

In reply, Bangalore could make 143 for six despite a blazing innings by West Indies’ Chris Gayle who struck six sixes and seven fours in his 58-ball 86.

Kallis claimed two wickets for 31 runs for Kolkata.
